October 19, 1938: "A pet chipmunk belonging to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Howell, sole occupant of the lookout on Bare mountain, lost its faith in civilization when it jumped on a hot stove for food. The chipmunk never had occasion to learn that stoves are hot. It learned so quickly, however, that its feet were burned only slightly." (Redwood Journal - Ukiah, Ca.)
