October 3, 1951: "Hunters are believed to have broken into Cooney lookout in the Condon Ranger district in the upper Swan valley.
They removed everything possible including rations. Flathead forest officials say the investigation has been turned over to the FBI.
The lookout there is on a 30-foot tower and the road into the lookout was completed only last year. The recent elk hunting season in the area is what lead forest rangers to believe the theft was bu hunters.
Time of the entry could not be determined but was during the past two week period. Estimate of the loss was given at $200." (The Daily Inter Lake)
