SCALPLOCK MOUNTAIN
Glacier National Park
September 5, 1947: "Mr. and Mrs. Harris Wilson, who have spent the summer on Scalp-Lock as lookouts, came down after the heavy rains last week end." (Hungry Horse News)
July 9, 1948: "Who lost a red hen Friday? When Mr. and Mrs. Robert McVeda were part way up the mountain on their way to their summer home in the Scalp Lock lookout tower, they saw a coyote carrying a big red hen. Red Hen's don't grow in Glacier national park, so you's better count your hens and let us know whose hen went to feed coyote pups." (Hungry Horse News)
June 27, 1952: "Married this month---serving as lookouts are Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Johnson, St. Paul, who will spend the summer on top of Scalplock mountain. Most of the mountain top lookouts who watch for fires are teachers or college students during the rest of the year." (Hungry Horse News)
July 18, 1952: "Folks on our Scalplock lookout, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Johnson, Minneapolis, moved up to the station, Friday. They were just married before leaving the cities, and this is their first experience on a lookout, so it will be a summer they will never forget. To start the summer off with a bang, Betty woke up the first morning to see a nice black bear looking in the window at them. He had climbed all the way up the stairs to see what the newcomers looked like." (Hungry Horse News)
September 12, 1952: "A week ago Tuesday Betty and Ken Johnson came down off Scalplock lookout with no regrets about leaving the place. They agreed it had been an experience, but right now one that they didn't want to repeat. They are returning to St. Paul where ken will finish his last quarter at the university and Betty will return to her work checking children in the schools there." (Hungry Horse News)
