ARRASTRA MOUNTAIN
Powell County - Helena National Forest - 15N-10W-11
July 22, 1930: "Perched 8,000 feet above sea level near the source of Arrastra creek, in the upper Blackfoot valley, a new lookout station has been located for added fire protection, Supervisor J.F. Brooks said yesterday. This station, from its high vantage point, will serve the large acreage added to the Missoula forest two years ago.
It will be constructed at an elevation of 8,000 feet, thus permitting the observer to watch the Arrastra, Dry and Meadow creek drainages. Nine miles of telephone line will be built to the new lookout and as soon as it is completed, the lookout will take his station on top of the hill." (The Daily Missoulian)

July 10, 1948: "Because of difficulty in packing supplies to back-country lookouts, aerial detection of forest fires in some cases has proven more economical than keeping men in lookout towers, the supervisor said. The plane contracted this year will replace the lookout formerly on Arrastra peak." (Independent Record)
