February 14, 1934: "A crew of 25 men are employed on the Bison range with road construction and also erection of three 60-foot steel towers for lookout fire stations. They are to be located at High Point, Wild Horse Mesa, and Thumb-Nob. A bulldozer from the Forest Service was used in building roads to these places." (The Missoulian)

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1968 (LGB) THE STATION IS LOCATED ABOUT 5 MILES EAST-NORTHEAST OF DIXON, 5 MILES WEST OF ST. IGNATIUS, 3 MILES NORTH-NORTHWEST OF RAVALLI, 30 FEET WEST OF THE HIGHEST POINT OF HIGH POINT MOUNTAIN, ON PROPERTY OWNED BY THE U.S. GOVERNMENT AND IN THE U.S. NATIONAL BISON RANGE.
TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE POST OFFICE IN DIXON, GO EAST ON U.S. HIGHWAY 10A FOR 0.85 MILE TO THE JUNCTION OF MONTANA HIGHWAY 212. TURN LEFT AND GO NORTHEASTERLY ON MONTANA HIGHWAY 212 FOR 4.75 MILES TO A SIDE ROAD RIGHT AND THE ENTRANCE TO THE NATIONAL BISON RANGE. TURN RIGHT AND GO EASTERLY FOR 0.7 MILE TO A Y-FORK AND THE NATIONAL BISON RANGE HEADQUARTERS IN THE NORTHEAST ANGLE. TURN RIGHT AND GO SOUTH ON PAVED ROAD FOR 0.35 MILE TO A Y-FORK JUST AFTER CROSSING A CATTLE GUARD. TAKE THE RIGHT FORK AND GO SOUTHERLY ON GRAVELED ROAD FOR 2.65 MILES TO A T-INTERSECTION. BEAR LEFT AND GO EASTERLY ON GRAVELED ROAD UP HILL FOR 5.9 MILES TO A ROCKY CLIFF ON THE LEFT AND THE AZIMUTH MARK. CONTINUE UP HILL FOR 0.2 MILE TO A Y-FORK. TAKE RIGHT FORK AND CONTINUE UP HILL FOR 0.4 MILE TO THE LOOKOUT TOWER AND THE STATION.
