July 19, 1939: “Accompanying the lightning storm of July 13 was an extremely severe wind storm. The anemometer at the Whitepine lookout had one of the cups blown off. A large number of trees and snags were blown across trails and roads resulting in a great deal of unusually heavy clearing work.” (The Sanders County Independent-Ledger)
