September 15, 1959: "Mrs. Bessie Sopher, Hamilton, who, for the past eight or 10 years has served as a forest service lookout during the summer fire season, completed another year's work Tuesday when she returned from Thunder mountain in the West Fork district.
She and the lookout at Elkhorn in the Magruder district were the last two to be called in, Dispatcher Tom Smith reported Tuesday.
Mrs. Sopher had been in for a few days earlier but went back on the job again. The same was true in the Magruder area when a couple of lookouts were put back on the job when a sheep hunting season on the Salmon slope was opened." (Ravalli Republic)
