June 24, 1937: “Construction of a fire lookout on Cable mountain northeast of Georgetown lake was begun this week by the U.S. Forestry service, according to L.M. Stewart, assistant supervisor in Butte. The lookout will be a frame building on a 20-foot log tower.
Building will require about six weeks. A telephone line will be strung and a trail will be blazed to the lookout.
The lookout, primarily for detecting forest fires, will overlook Georgetown and Silver lakes and the primitive area surrounding them.
George Fisher, ranger located in Anaconda, will have charge of the work. A U.S. Forestry service man will be assigned to duty day and night occupation of the lookout during the season.
An invitation to the public to inspect the lookout will be issued later in the summer, according to Stewart.” (Independent)

August 15, 1937: "The other lookout tower under construction is on Cable mountain north and east of Georgetown lake. A temporary camp there now serves as a lookout. Telephone communication has been completed there." (Montana Butte Standard)
September 3, 1937: "Cable mountain lookout northeast of Georgetown was completed and accepted by the U,S. Forestry service yesterday, officials at the Deer Lodge National forest supervisor's office stated. The 14-foot-square tower and living quarters was started early in August.
A lookout station in a temporary tent camp during the summer took over his duties at the tower yesterday. The post serves a wide area of the forest in the vicinity of Echo and Georgetown lakes. Trails and telephone lines were completed in the middle of August." (Montana Butte Standard)
June 24, 1938: "Lightning destroyed a tree near Cable Mountain lookout during recent storms, Charles A. Joy, supervisor of the Deer Lodge national forest, stated yesterday. He said the forest service lookout was not damaged." (Montana Standard)
September 28, 1939: "The last lookout observer to be taken from his post in the Deer Lodge National Forest this season will leave his station at the Cable mountain lookout Saturday, L.M. Stewart, assistant supervisor of the forest, said yesterday.
He is John Ringdahl, and his removal will mark the official close of the 1939 fire season in this forest." (Montana Butte Standard)
June 29, 1940: "Membership cards to the Ancient Order of Squirrels have been received in Anaconda, it was announced today by Eric White, Anaconda district ranger for the Deer Lodge National forest.
The cards have been sent to the Cable Mountain lookout where Carl Ermelbauer will issue them to any individual climbing to the lookout tower at that site. The lookout is the only one at present in this district.
Membership is granted to those climbing to the lookout and promising to exercise caution in the forest." (Montana Standard)
July 20, 1943: "Miss Anna Beth Glaser, 19, Anaconda, Monday was named the first woman lookout in the Deer Lodge National Forest's history. District Ranger Eric P. White appointed the Montana State college co-ed to serve atop Cable Mountain, which points 6,767 feet into the air 15 miles west of here." (Montana Standard)
