July 14, 1932: "Associates of Charles J. Hash, assistant supervisor of the Lolo national forest, who was killed by lightning at the Woodman lookout station southwest of Missoula this afternoon, carried his body on an improvised stretcher over a mile and a half of mountain trail to a waiting ambulance and brought it to Missoula late today.
Mr. Hash, who with Ranger Earl Tennant was leaving the lookout after an inspection, was killed instantly, the bolt passing through his body to the ground, tearing his clothing to shreds and scattering his watch and other metal articles within a radius of 50 feet. Tennant was knocked unconscious by the same bolt but revived quickly and assisted in carrying the body of his superior to the road." (Independent)
