June 24, 1922: "D.L. Beatty, national forest examiner, will leave here next week for a tour of inspection of the Lolo national forest. He will inspect the lookout stations, trails and bridge work. He will visit the lookout station recently built near Lolo Hot Springs." (The Daily Missoulian)
July 22, 1928: "Mrs. Lewis Gutherie is in receipt of a letter from her son, Robert, in which he tells her that he is working in the forest service at Lolo Hot Springs and is located at a point so high that it is twice as high above sea level as is the city of Missoula. He does not see a person for weeks at a time and can look out over a vast territory from his lookout station." (Billings Gazette)
