August 19, 1955: "Just as an extra precautionary measure the Pinto Lookout has been manned this week by Daniel Schroedel of Pampa, Tex., forestry student at Montana State University at Missoula. This now makes, three lookouts in the district. Red Mountain and Black Butte lookouts have been in operation since the beginning of the season. There is also a forestry plane patrolling the area every day from the Libby district." (The Inter Lake)
September 16, 1955: "A forest fire resulting from a lightning strike on Pink Mountain was reported by Pinto Mountain Lookout Thursday evening, Sept. 8. Smoke chasers left from Big Creek Cabin immediately, arrived and began work on putting out the fire was extinguished by Friday evening, Sept. 10." (Evergreen)
