August 6, 1930: "A fire was reported to A.E. Boorman at 9 o'clock last night in the vicinity of Ashley Lake but so far no fire was discovered. The report came from the Star Meadow lookout station and a truck and five men were sent in and they scoured the woods last night. Today two men, one on the south side of the range and the other on the north side are combing the forest for the fire but so far have not discovered it. Mr. Boorman stated that the lookout reported he was able to see the base of the fire and he was under the impression that what he saw was the blaze from the K.C. Karow Lumber company burner."
