July 18, 1957: “Sterling Clawson, the forest service lookout assigned to Driveway peak, did double duty Sunday afternoon according to Irwin Puphal, district ranger.
Clawson reported a lightning-started small forest fire and then scrambled a half mile down the mountain from his lookout to extinguish the blaze.” (The Sanders County Independent-Ledger)

August 1, 1957: “Plans of the Forest Service for construction of a road to Driveway Peak lookout were announced this week by Irwin Puphal, district ranger. Work on the road is expected to start in about two weeks.
Puphal said the road to the lookout will be an extension of approximately four miles of the present Stibnite mine road. The mine is located up Prospect creek from the Montana Power Co. Crow Creek sub-station.
When the road is completed, Driveway Peak will be the third lookout in the Thompson Falls ranger district accessible by road. The two other lookouts are Clark and Eddy peaks.
The Forest Service is expected to request bids for construction of the road soon.” (The Sanders County Independent-Ledger)

The Forest Service has awarded contracts to Sam Bellusci of Kalispell and Russell Oliver to employ their bulldozers on the road project. The road will be an extension of the present Stibnite mine road.
