July 28, 1928: "Fire conditions in the Montana district of the Missoula forest near Ovando are not acute at the present, Forest Supervisor J. F. Brooks, said Wednesday upon returning to Missoula from an inspection trip of telephone lines in that district.
A new standard telephone line, extending from Monture to the top of Fenn mountain, will be constructed soon as a result of the inspection trip. At present a temporary line exists, but this is unsatisfactory. The necessity of the new line is brought about partly by the fact that the upper Swan river area is as yet unprotected by lines of communication. The Fenn mountain lookout, situated at an 8,200 elevation, is capable of spotting fires in that district and quick communication may avoid a serious fire if reported promptly." (The Daily Missoulian)
