1929: (A description of the lookout) "At the Turner Mountain lookout there was a tent with a dirt floor, near a tree about thirty inches in diameter at its base. Up where the tree trunk was about fourteen inches across they'd cut the top off and built a lookout platform. This platform was braced down the side of the tree, so the platform was sturdy enough-it was solid. Then they had a handrail about three and a half feet high around the outside of the platform, and there was a hole in the floor, through which you climbed up onto the platform. When the wind was blowing the whole thing swayed back and forth pretty good." ("The Free Life of a Ranger" Archie Murchie - U.S. Forest Service 1929-1965 University of Nevada Oral History Program)
