July 13, 1933: "Alf Wendler of Lincoln, stationed at the lookout of Dalton mountain, was brought to Helena for medical attention this week. Wendler was injured when a deer frightened his pack horses and one of them jerked him from the horse he was riding. He was injured about the head." (Independent - Helena)
September 27, 1933: "Eleven miles of tree telephone line will be laid by the forest service from Green mountain and Dalton mountain lookout stations to the Lincoln-Helena telephone line in the Blackfoot valley, Supervisor J.N. Templer of the Helena National forest, announced yesterday. Forest fire lookouts will make use of the line during the fire season to report blazes to strategic centers." (Independent - Helena)
October 21, 1933: "Data was being gathered yesterday by forest service officials for the construction of a lookout station and tower on Dalton mountain, seven miles south of Lincoln.
The information is being gathered by Supervisor J.N. Templer of the Helena forest, Assistant Supervisor H.H. Hendron and Ranger L.P. McNight of the Lincoln district. The station is to be erected with funds allotted by the public works administration. Observations are now being taken to determine how high the tower should be.
Ranger B.A. Goodman of the Helena district is now supervising preliminary work on the construction of a stopover station for rangers in the Jim Ball basin." (Independent - Helena)
April 14, 1934: "Plans for construction of a new lookout station on Dalton mountain in the Willow creek district is now under way, it is announced by Supervisor J.N. Templer of the Helena National forest.
Assistant Supervisor H.H. Hendron and Ranger L.P. McNight have been making preliminary surveys and the work will start as soon as possible. Funds for the project have been allotted and the work must be completed by July 1. The station tower will be high enough to give the observer a commanding sweep of the surrounding territory."
